The DSB (Danske Statsbaner) is the state-owned railway company in Denmark. It operates the majority of passenger traffic on the Danish rail network.

FIP Coupons and FIP 50 Tickets are valid on DSB connections. For cross-border journeys, either a continuous FIP 50 Ticket or FIP Coupons for both countries must be available.

Train Categories and Reservations

Within Denmark, reservations are possible but not mandatory. For cross-border journeys to and from Germany, the EC trains Hamburg - Copenhagen are usually reservation-required during the summer.

IntercityLyn (ICL)

Description:IntercityLyn trains are the fastest trains of DSB. They operate at speeds of up to 180 km/h with few stops on the main routes across the country, connecting cities like Aalborg, Aarhus, and Copenhagen.Reservation possible: yesReservation mandatory: no

Intercity (IC)

Eurocity (EC) ⚠️

Description:Eurocity trains operate cross-border on the route between Hamburg and Copenhagen, currently via Padborg, Kolding, and Odense. As of 2025, they use former IC coaches of Deutsche Bahn. Regional Train (R) ℹ️

Description:Regional trains provide local connections between various locations. S-tog (S)

The reservation price is charged per journey. This means that for connections with transfers, you only need to pay once for multiple trains.

Through the DSB website, you can book seat reservations for domestic Danish train connections. When booking seats, you must enter “0” as the number of passengers and then specify the desired number of seat reservations.

FIP 50 Tickets

Deutsche Bahn employees can purchase FIP 50 Tickets online for journeys from Germany to neighboring countries. These tickets are available in the DB Reisemarkt > Bahnangebote > Ausland > FIP-Angebot. The FIP 50 ticket is only valid for the foreign section of the route. This is especially important for DB employees, as FIP 50 Tickets are not valid in your own home country. Therefore, an additional ticket is required for the domestic section within Germany up to the border point.

Booking is only possible via the link in the DB Reisemarkt. Discounts do not need to be selected; they are applied automatically.

The FIP 50 ticket is issued for the entire route. The ticket is not valid in the country where the FIP Card was issued; an additional ticket is required there.

DSB can probably only sell FIP 50 Tickets for Denmark at international ticket counters. These are located at the main stations in Aarhus, Copenhagen, and Odense. We do not know whether foreign FIP 50 Tickets can also be sold at these counters.

Deutsche Bahn ticket offices are called DB Reisezentrum and are located in many larger stations throughout Germany.

FIP 50 Tickets

At DB ticket offices, FIP 50 Tickets can be purchased for journeys within Germany and to many European countries.

It is also possible to issue FIP 50 Tickets where only the section outside Germany is charged, and an additional ticket is required for the German section. This is especially important for DB employees, as FIP 50 Tickets are not valid in their home country.

With FIP 50 Tickets, the journey can be interrupted, but it must be confirmed by train staff.1

Copenhagen Airport

FIP facilities are not valid on Øresundståg services from Københavns Hovedbanegård (Copenhagen Central Station) to Københavns Lufthavn Station (Copenhagen Airport railway station).

FIP 50 in Copenhagen and Aarhus

FIP 50 Tickets cannot be issued for trips between stations within the Copenhagen metropolitan area or the Aarhus-Grenaa region. Only trips beyond these regions are possible. FIP Coupons, however, are valid for trips within these regions.

Use of Ferries

Unofficial Information

Allegedly, FIP 50 Tickets are valid on Scandlines ferries in connection with a train journey through Denmark. However, this has not yet been confirmed by us. 1

Recommendations

Personal Tip

DSB offers reliable and comfortable service. The 1st class is particularly worthwhile for FIP journeys in Denmark, as it provides complimentary tea, coffee, water, and snacks at all times, and often a small breakfast in the morning. It also grants access to the DSB Lounge in Copenhagen, Odense, and Aarhus. Additionally, a free drink (coffee, tea, water) can be obtained at 7/11 at the station. 2
